Having the stiffness matrix for the adhesive as shown in equation (19),we can couple the stiffness matrix of the adhesive to the stiffness matrices of the composite patch and damaged laminate.According to Jones and Callinan [9],the interlaminar shear stresses τzx and τzy in the patch and laminate can be neglected with only a few percent error.In this investigation,the stiffness matrices of the composite patch and damaged laminate are derived based on the standard plane stress formulation.Using the standard finite element assembly procedure,we can incorporate the stiffness matrix of the adhesive along with the stiffness matrices of the composite patch and damaged laminate,thus producing the system stiffness matrix for the adhesively
bonded composite laminate.
