現(xiàn)代通信技術(shù)可以說是向著一個更直接更有效的通信模式方向發(fā)展.比如說:以前要經(jīng)過三個人手的寄信方式先被E-mail給取代了,最后又被能夠在間隔很遠的兩個地方人之間進行更直接、更快交談的電話所取代;從這個角度來看,可以很容易的預(yù)言,電話進一步的發(fā)展就是可視電話,它可以提供更多實用和現(xiàn)實的會話.這種演化的形式在廣播領(lǐng)域也是適用的.那種純粹是聽覺效果的廣播不可避免的要被帶有視覺效果的電視所代替,并且隨著彩色電視機的發(fā)展,黑白電視機已經(jīng)逐漸報廢了.同樣的,彩色電視機也將被能提供更現(xiàn)實和更真實視覺圖片的高清電視所取代.我們的目標是建立一個具有寬帶的、對基本技術(shù)又詳細描述的寬帶電信系統(tǒng).因此,在圖一中給出了5個組成要點:光通信技術(shù)、同步數(shù)字傳輸系統(tǒng)、寬帶數(shù)字綜合業(yè)務(wù)網(wǎng)和異步傳輸模式、高速率數(shù)據(jù)傳輸、寬帶視頻通信服務(wù),它們是寬帶電信系統(tǒng)的核心部分,簡單的說背景和寬帶電信將會被檢查.

Broadband Telecommunications
The developmental process of modern communications can be said to be an evolution to a more direct and natural form of communications.To illustrate:delivering message via a third person was soon replaced by the mail service,which was subsequently supplemented by the telephone,allowing direct,delay-free conversation between two remote parties.From this perspective,it can easily be predicted that the next evolutionary step following the telephone will be the videophone,which enables a more natural and realistic mode of conversing.Such an evolutionary scenario can also be applied to the field of broadcasting.A purely listening form of broadcasting was inevitably followed by television ,with the added visual dimension,and black-and-white televisions became obsolete with the advent of color televisions.In the same context,ordinary color televisions of today will soon be transformed into high-definition television(HDTV),which can display even more realistic and natural-looking pictures.
Our goal is to provide a broad but detailed description of the technologies fundamental to constructing broadband telecommunication systems.Therefore,the five essential components described in Figure 1,fiber-optic communication technology,synchronous digital transmission,B-ISDN and ATM,high-speed data communication,and broadband video communication services,will form the core contents of the broadband telecommunication system,the background of broadband telecommunications will be reviewed briefly.
The basic technologies underling the communication network will be reviewed first,and then the progress of the telecommunication technologies will be examined in terms of transmission,switching,signaling,packet communication,ISDN,and B-ISDN.Finally,the key technologies essential for the implementation of broadband telecommunication systems will be discussed in reference to optical communication medium,broadband transmission,ATM communication,high-speed data network,and broadband video technologies.
As can be inferred from the examples of videophone and HDTV,the evolution of future communications will be via broadband communication centered around video signals.The associated services make up a diverse set of high-speed and broadband services ranging from video signals.The associated services make up a diverse set of high-speed and broadband services ranging from video services such as videophone,video conferencing,video surveillance,cable television(CATV) distribution,and HDTV distribution to the high-speed data services such as high-resolution image transmission,high-speed data transmission,and color facsimile.
