Computer games and console video games have grown over time from a relatively subculture into mainstream entertainment. Many children play computer games daily, to the point where playing games can become a concern for parents. Playing computer games can potentially have several negative impacts on kids; however, the effects will vary based on the individual, games played and parental guidance.

Mature children may be able to dissociate violent games from the real world and play games strictly for entertainment. Parents should monitor the types of games their kids play and control the amount of time kids play to reduce any negative impact games might have.
