A girl in Nepal
The picture shows eighteen-year-old Katy Ross in Nepal,a small country north of India.Katy left school eight months ago and soon she will go to university.She loves travelling and decided to visit Asia before she goes to university.
Katy is living with a family in the capital of Nepal.She has learnt a lot about the country since she arrived four months ago.The family has two chlidren but many uncles and cousins live with them in their big house.They have taken Katy to many parties.
Katy teachers for four hours a day at a small school.All the classes are in English,and the puils have spoken English since the age of six.The older chlidren speak English very well.Katy has taught writing,grammar,and art,all in English.She enjoys arts the most,and she thinks the chlidren like these lessons best,too!
Katy has not had a lot of time to see Nepal,but soon,she will stop teaching and travel around Nepal with a friend."After that,"Katy says,"we'll visit more countries in Asia.We're not sure which ones yet."
Vanessa-Mae
The young violinist Vanessa-Mae was the frist musician to use techno,dance and rock in tradition classical music.Vanessa-Mae loved pop music,and she was also a very good classical violinist,and she brought the two kinds of music together.
Vanessa-Mae was born in singapore on October 27,1978.She moved to London with her family when she was four.A year later,she started to learn volin.When she was ten,she played with a very famous group of classical musicians.But Vanessa-Mae doesn't only paly the violin.She learnt the paino before she started to paly the violin.
She likes lots of diffierent kinds of music,from Beethoven to the Beatles,and she wants to play the music she likes.Not only has she played in pop concerts with pop stars.
A lot of people don't like the way she uses modern rhythms,noisy drums and guitars in traditional music.But Vanessa-Mae has done ove important thing:she has brought many new fans to classical music.For the frist time,many young people began to listen to classical music.
