After the Tigger Died,Along Came a Wolf
A man named Ruo Shi who lived at the foot of a mountain.A tiger was wandering around his home,searching for food.
Ruo Shi told his family,"We must be careful.Don't give the tiger any chance."
Together,they thought of many ideas.They built a fence aroud the home and planted many thorny plants outside the fence.They rang a bell and played deums in order to frighten the tiger away if he came near and for a year,they lived safely.
One night,the tiger was so hungry that he did not care about the precautions.He wanted to break into Ruo Shi's home and catch a chicken.He jumped high and long,crossing the bonfire but his front claws landed on the thorns of the fence.This hurt the tiger so much that he let go of the fence only to end up sitting in the bonfire.He cried out miserably from the burns and escaped in a bad temper.
This was in winter and all small animals were hiding.The tiger soon died of starvation.
Ruo Shi was overjoyed."Now it's fine,"he thought,"We don't have to be afraid of anything."
Later,the fence fell down and no one repaired it.The thorny plants died due to lack of care.Since there was no tiger,no one touched the bell,drum or tended the bonfire.
One night,a fierce wolf was chasing prey.He was passing by Ruo Shi's home when he heard pigs and sheep in the yard.He ran into the yard to catch sheep.
Ruo Shi heard the miserable cries of sheep and hurried out to throw mud at the wolf.However,the wolf was so ferocious that he killed Ruo Shi.
