TV is one of the most popular ways to spend our time.Nowadays more and more teenagers spend twice as mush time in front of the TV than reading books or playing games outside.As far as I know there is a great variety of opinions about television:some say that it’s very useful,and the others that it’s harmful.
Advantages:Some programs really engage the viewer's mind,and that can make TV useful as a learning tool.I found shows like Between the Lions,Zoom,and Sesame Street both entertaining and useful.TV exposes you to things you might not see otherwise.Watching the news might be easier than to make some people read the newspaper.I've found some meaningful movies on TV as well,especially the documentary movies which may be more interesting than reading history books.To be honest,a lot of what I know about the world is due to watching television.However everyone is exposed to bad material at some point,so television introduces it to them earlier.
Disadvantages:There is just as much bad material as good material on TV.Unless a parent monitors what the child watches,it is very easy for them to see shows with profanity,violence,sex,and other inappropriate material.It's hard to filter these programs out,as they become prevalent.For adolescents,most of the "teen dramas” on television are unrealistic such as Gossip Girl which is very famous among the young generation,although they might be entertaining and its part of adolescence to discuss these shows with friends.Watching TV makes it harder for kids to want to go out and exercise,although computer does that too.
I have shown only a few features of television.Of course it is only a small part.Watching television can give us many positives things like news,entertainment and knowledge but it can by also dangerous.
