Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea is a classic science fiction novel by French writer Jules Verne.The novel is about the fictional Captain Nemo and his submarine which is seen by one of his passengers,Professor Pierre Aronnax.
The story was written before modern submarines were a reality.It is describled by Professor Pierre Aronnax,a marine biologist,who was accompanied by his faithful assistant and by a Canadian harpooner named Ned Land.As the story began,a mysterious "sea monster",was seen by ships of several nations; an ocean liner was also damaged by the creature.The United States government finally assembled several ships to track down and destroy the monster.Since Aronnax happened to be invited to go along,and he accepts.Afterwards,the ships found the "monster" and had a battle.The expedition was defeated,and Aronnax was saved by the "monster".
Their travels took them to a lot of points in the world's oceans.And the travelers witnessed the real corals of the Red Sea,Atlantis and other sceneries.When they returned to the Atlantic Ocean,a group of giant squid attacked the submarine,and killed a crew member.Nemo fell into deep depression,and allowed the submarine to sink.This gave the three prisoners an opportunity to escape; they made it back to land alive,but the fate of Captain Nemo and his crew was not knowed.
