Poaching and selling endangered species is major problem in China.According to the Wildlife Alliance,China is the number-one destination in the world for illegal wildlife products.Chinese traditional medicine incorporates parts of rare animals,including rhinoceros horns,tiger claws and bones,and seahorses.Despite bans on such products,thousand-year-old traditions die hard,and a population of 1.3 billion people has made China a vacuum for the world’s wildlife.Even though illegal traffickers are fined 100,000 RMB (around $14,000) for each infraction,a black market for rare animal products continues to thrive,and species from other countries,especially from Southeast Asia,are pillaged to supply Chinese demand.
