這兩個詞在詞義和使用場合上都有所不同.
No可以作副詞,也可以作名詞和形容詞；not只能用作副詞.現(xiàn)將它們各種用法分述如下,以便比較：
作副詞時,no有下列兩種用法：
（一）作為yes的反義詞,用在回答問題的場合,表示“不”的意思.例：
No,I won't go to the casino．
不,我不去賭場.
（二）用在比較級之前,表示“并不”之意.例：
The weather today is no better than it was yesterday．
今天的天氣并不比昨天好.
用作形容詞時,no表示not any的意味.例：
There is no（=not any）time to lose．
時不可失.
注：當no用作形容詞時,可直接放在名詞之前,如果名詞的前面有a、any、much、many、enough等詞,就要改用not,不用no,因為not是副詞,只有副詞才有資格修飾a、any、much、many、enough等詞.因此,我們說：
I have no money．或I have not any money．
作名詞時,no表示“否定”的意思.例：
Two noes make a yes．
否定的否定就是肯定.
Not可用于
（一）修飾動詞：
I do not know any of them．
這些人我一個都不認識.
（二）修飾形容詞：
It's not cold today．
今天天氣不冷.
（三）修飾不定冠詞：
Three decades ago not a year passed without a number of people falling victims to hunger here．
三十年前,這里每年都有不少人死于饑荒.
（四）修飾副詞：
Not seldom did I go to Victoria Park while I stayed in Causeway Bay．
我住在銅鑼灣期間常到維多利亞公園去.
（五）修飾連詞：
They are working hard not because they want to make money but because they know what they are working for．
他們在努力工作其原因并非是為了賺錢,而是在于他們知道為何而工作.
請注意下面no和not的區(qū)別：
Mr．Chen is no fool．
陳先生決不是傻瓜.
Mr．Chen is not a fool．
陳先生不是傻瓜.
He is no good at tennis．
他的網(wǎng)球打得很不好.
He is not good at tennis．
他的網(wǎng)球打得不好.
I have no more than ten dollars．
我只有十元錢.
I have not more than ten dollars．
我有不超過十元錢.
