Recently I overheard a mother and daughter in their last moments together at the airport.They had announced the departure.Standing near the security gate,they hugged and the mother said "I love you and I wish you enough"
The daughter replied,"Mom,our life together has been more than enough.Your love is all I ever needed.I wish you enough,too,Mom" They kissed and the daughter left.The mother walked over to the window where I was seated.Standing there I could see she wanted and needed to cry.I tried not to intrude on her privacy but she welcomed me in by asking "Did you ever say goodbye to someone knowing it would be forever?"
"Yes,I have," I replied."Forgive me for asking but why is this a forever goodbye?" "I am old and she lives so far away.I have challenges ahead and the reality is -- the next trip back will be for my funeral" she said.
"When you were saying goodbye,I heard you say 'I wish you enough'.May I ask what that means?" She began to smile "That's a wish that has been handed down from other generations.My parents used to say it to everyone".
She paused a moment and looked up as if trying to remember it in detail and she smiled even more."When we said 'I wish you enough' we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain them".
Then turning toward me she shared the following as if she were reciting it from memory --
I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.
She then began to cry and walked away.They say it takes a minute to find a special person,an hour to appreciate them,a day to love them,but then an entire life to forget them.
什么是足夠的
最近,我無意中聽到一個母親和女兒在飛機場臨別前的對話,登機的時間到了,他們站在安檢門附近,擁抱在一起.母親說：“我愛你并且給你足夠的祝福.”女兒回答道：“媽媽,我們生活在一起已經(jīng)足夠長,你的愛是我曾經(jīng)所有的需要.我也送給你足夠的祝福,媽媽.”他們相互親吻,然后女兒走了.母親走過我坐在的窗戶,站在那里,我可以看到她想并且需要哭泣,我嘗試著不去打擾她,但是她卻用熱情歡迎我并對我說：“你是否曾經(jīng)對一個你明知道將永遠不會再看到的人說再見”
“是的,“我回答道.請原諒我問為什么是一個永遠的再見?”我很老了,而她住得很遠很遠.我已經(jīng)面對著未來和事實的挑戰(zhàn),那就是,當(dāng)她下次回來時將會是參加我的葬禮.”她說到.
“當(dāng)你說再見時,我聽到你說 ‘ 我給你足夠的祝福’我可以問這是什么意思嗎?”她開始微笑,“那是上輩傳下來的祝福.我的父母過去說這句話給每個人.她停頓了一下,看起來像是在試圖去回憶起什么細節(jié),她的笑意更濃了.“當(dāng)我們說‘我給你足夠的祝?！瘯r,我們是希望其他的人擁有一個充滿了美好事情的生活,以此支撐他們.
然后她轉(zhuǎn)向我開始朗誦,讓我和她一起分享來自她記憶中的祝福
我祝福你擁有足夠的陽光,保持你愉快的心態(tài).我祝福你擁有足夠的雨露去感謝充足的陽光.我祝福你擁有足夠的幸福,保持你的靈魂不死.我祝福你擁有足夠的痛苦,如此可以使得生活中的很小的快樂成為巨大的歡樂.我祝福你有足夠的收獲以滿足你的渴望.我祝福你失去的足夠多以感謝你所有的擁有.我祝福你說足夠多的你好以得到你最后的再見.
她開始哭泣并且走遠了,他們花一分鐘去找到一個特殊的人去說這些,你用一個小時去感謝他們,你用一天去愛他們,但是你卻要用一生去忘記他們.
