The Leeds University Business School cafe is seeking to improve the quality of its coffee and to ensure that the products it sells are ethically produced.
The manager sees an advertisement for a new high quality brand of coffee called premium Coffee.Within the advertisement the manufacturer of the coffee describes it as "The best available in the United Kingdom".The advertisement is aimed at cafe owners and includes the following statement "if less than one hundred per cent of your customers are satisfied with our coffee we will give you double the price of the beans".Later the manager of LUBS cafe sees the brand featured in the catalogue of her usual wholesaler "Refreshment supplies Ltd".The catalogue states that the brand has recently arrived in the UK and appears to be very popular amongst consumers.The manager speaks to the wholesaler on the telephone.She asks whether the coffee is good quality and whether it is certified as "fairtrade",the wholesaler assures her that it is.She orders three month's supply of coffee over the phone.
Soon afterwards Professor Smith buys a cup of coffee made with Premium coffee from LUBS cafe,he returns it saying that it is the worst tasting coffee he has ever had.The manager has also noticed that none of the coffee's packaging displays the 'fairtrade' certification logo.
Advise the manager of LUBS cafe.
