An initial investigation has been carried out and the following stock levels have been recorded for each type of appliance at each type of storage facility.
• Retail outlets range from zero stock to five items of any particular model.
• Country specific central warehouses range from zero to twenty items of any particular model.
• Transit warehouse ranges from fifty to two hundred and fifty items of any particular model.
• A similar situation exists within the United Kingdom
When a retail outlet is out of stock they try to locate the item at either the central warehouse or one of the other retail outlets within that particular country.This usually solves the problem but,in the case of another retail outlet it usually means arranging transport of single items,in some instances,over several hundred miles and the customer still has to wait for the appliance.
On very rare occasions appliances have had to be located from another country’s central warehouse which increases the transportation costs even further.
This situation has also contributed to the loss situation experienced by the company over the past two years.
