perform properly.The ability to detect s ensor failure and to
provide a corresponding analytical or "soft" estimate to all
control functions that rely on the measurement will be an
essential requirement.Analytical redundancy costs far less
than physical redundancy for critical sensor measurements,
and can lower the overall cost of the ship.
