Saya started her
life as a robot waitress (女服務(wù)員) at Japanese companies,then she gave a lesson to
fifth-graders as a teacher at Tokyo's Kudan Elementary School.
Professor Hiroshi
Kobayashi of Tokyo University of Science built Saya.He said he didn’t want to
make her replace(取代) human teachers,just show the development of technology.
"We don’t hope the robot will take over from teachers,but rather our main
reason for building the robot is to use new technology to teach children about
technology," said Kobayashi.
But Saya may be
helpful in some schools.They are short of teachers.In the countryside or in
some small schools,children do not have the chance to come into new technology
and few teachers in their school can teach these lessons.
Many of the
children were interested in Saya,and did not take their eyes off her all over
the lecture.When class was over,some students still played with
her.
"It's so much
more fun than regular classes," said 10-year-old Nanako Iijima.But the
children's human teacher was not as pleased with the robot as her
students.
