be of 結(jié)構(gòu)用法很靈活,在句中可作表語(yǔ)、后置定語(yǔ)或賓補(bǔ).
一、“be of+ 表示年齡（ age ）、大?。?size ）、顏色（ color ）、重量（ weight ）、高度（ height ）、價(jià)格（ price ）、意見(jiàn)（ opinion ）、形狀（ shape ）、種類（ kind ）和方法（ way ）等的名詞”,表示“具有……”,說(shuō)明主語(yǔ)的特征.例如：
When I was of your age,I entered the war.
當(dāng)我是你這個(gè)年齡的時(shí)候,我就去打仗了.
These flowers are of different colors.
這些花的顏色都不同.
注意：在此結(jié)構(gòu)中,如果后面的名詞前有不定冠詞 a / an ,則這個(gè)冠詞相當(dāng)于 the same .例如：
The two boys are of an / the same age.
這兩個(gè)男孩同齡.
二、“be of + 物質(zhì)名詞”,表示主語(yǔ)是由某種材料制成或由某種成分構(gòu)成,相當(dāng)于 be made of,be built of,be made up of 等.例如：
The necklace is （made） of glass.
這條項(xiàng)鏈?zhǔn)怯刹Ａе瞥傻?
Our class is （made up） of over 50 students.
我們班有 50 多個(gè)學(xué)生.
三、 be of 還可以表示所屬關(guān)系,相當(dāng)于 belong to .例如：
China and India are of the third world.
中國(guó)與印度同屬于第三世界.
Workers and peasants are of one family.
工人和農(nóng)民是一家.
四、“be of + 形容詞最高級(jí)”,相當(dāng)于 be one of… .例如：
His temper is of the quickest.
他的脾氣是最急躁的.
Mr Liu is of the best teachers in our school.
劉老師是我們學(xué)校最好的老師之一.
五、“be of+ 抽象名詞（ value,importance,use,help,interest 等）”相當(dāng)于“be + 該抽象名詞相對(duì)應(yīng)的形容詞”.其中 of 表示“具備；具有”,of 不可以省略.例如：
They are of great help / very helpful to learners of English.
他們對(duì)英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)者來(lái)說(shuō)是很有幫助的.
The press conference seems of great importance / very important.
這個(gè)新聞發(fā)布會(huì)看來(lái)很重要.
