Learning is your personal thing ,you can't depend on others.Certainly,good environment,plenty books and wise teachers and friends are very helpful.But only own all the conditions above,it is also hard to make sure the one will be successful in study.However,many people who have make great progress in study don't have those conditions.The most important factor ,is your own hard working.It's a very hard thing to learn,someone can't stand the hard working,so they can't be successful.In 1950s and 1960s,most Americans explained the meaning of success by stable the family and caught up with the period tide.They think if they rules to do everything and try their best to work hard,and give up their own needs because of the family and the boss,they can get a good result:living conditions improving little by little,they can get along well with their husband or wife,their children will be gentle,they will be able to buy expensive cars,own their house in the suburbs,their children could study in college,all of this is gotten by hard working and self-sacrifice.
