Kingfishers are small,brightly-coloured birds like the parrots or parakeets.They are about 15 to 20 centimetres long.Their feathers are greenish-blue,white and dark orange in colour.Their bills and feet are reddish-brown.
\x05Kingfishers make very loud and shrill noises.They make their nests in burrows which are holes in the ground or in trees.Their eggs are round and shinning white like small marbles.The kingfisher that we usually see around our neighbourhood is called “Raja Udang” or “King of the Prawns”.It feeds mainly on fish and prawns,as its name suggests.
\x05Most kingfishers live near the river or the sea.They are generally seen perched on an overhanging branch near a stream,ready to dive into the water to catch their prey.
