張怡寧5歲開始打球,1991年進入省隊,1993年進入國家隊,已經(jīng)取代王楠成為中國女子乒乓球的領(lǐng)軍人物.2004年雅典奧運會首奪女子雙打（與王楠）冠軍,并奪得女單冠軍.2005年奪得第48屆世乒賽女單冠軍,實現(xiàn)世錦賽、奧運會和世界杯的大滿貫.2008年北京奧運會上,她再次同隊友一道奪取女子團體冠軍,并成功衛(wèi)冕女單冠軍.2011年3月底,張怡寧首次承認退役,自此,中國乒乓球的張怡寧時代正式結(jié)束.
