一般說來,介詞后接動詞應(yīng)是動名詞.但是介詞but、except卻比較特殊,后接動詞時,可以接不定式,并且這個不定式可以帶to也可以不帶to：
1．當(dāng)它前面的謂語含有實義動詞do（可以是各種形式）時,其后的不定式通常不帶to：
He did nothing but play chess yesterday．他昨天除了下棋外什么都沒干.
2．當(dāng)它前面的謂語沒有實義動詞do時,其后的不定式通常要帶to：
I have no choice but to do it．我別無選擇只有做.
3．當(dāng)其前含有實義動詞do但不是用作謂語時,其后的不定式帶不帶to均可,但以不帶to為多見：
There's nothing to do but（to）wait．只有等待.
