Mercer came out with their first annual study showing that planning for retirement was largely incomplete amongst India’s working population especially the young.Compared with the US and the West,where the income replacement ratio,which benchmarks on an average the 60% of pre retirement income as the amount needed during retirement and in some cases as high as 80%,India does not meet the benchmark and the average income replacement ratio stands at an insufficient 30%.Gautam Kakkar,India Business Leader for Mercer’s Retirement and Risk consulting and specialist in the area of life insurance and pension businesses in a conversation with FE’s Malvika Chandan,talks about how individuals can fill the gaps currently prevalent in retirement planning
