Cultural influences such as television portray mostly a world 這是主句,in which一直到最后是一個定語從句,修飾先行詞a world 這里的in which相當于where,在定語從句中,that sustains civilization又是一個定語從句,修飾先行詞respect.
介詞+ which 在定語從句中有的時候可以代替where,when 來使用,有的時候,那個介詞,其實是定語從句不及物動詞后的介詞+賓語,自然賓語是先行詞,用which代替先行詞
例如 i remember the day on which/ when we met first.
i didnot know the place in which / where he lived.這兩個是可以用when和where替換的,因為他們在定語從句中是充當時間和地點狀語.
但是下面就不可以了
i didn't know the man with whom he talked.其實這里是talk with sb的動詞短語組,不是時間或者地點狀語,不能用where 或者when 替換
