Allan lived in a small town outside the city of Washington.He began to go a middle school last year but he hated to be at school.He spent much time in playing football and hardly paid attention to his lessons.And he always fell behind his classmates.His parents hoped he could work hard at his studies,but he wouldn't listen to them.They were worried about it,but didn't know what to do.
It was December 22,Monday.Before a week's holiday began,Mr Clarke,their history teacher,tested his students.The boy played football that Sunday and didn't touch the book at all.He read the questions again and again but couldn't answer the easiest one,for example,"What was George Washington?" He hoped to watch the biggest football match in France on TV and wouldn't think them over.So he wrote on the test paper,"God knows!I do not!Merry Christmas!" Then he hurried off.
Of course it made Mr.Clarke unhappy.And a week later the test paper came back to the boy with his notation ," God gets 100!You get zero!Happy New Year!"
