記幾個(gè)例句可能比較容易找到感覺.Sympathy和Compassion都有同情的意思,Compassion是非常正式的一個(gè)詞,比pity要書面化.
如果非要說區(qū)別的話,這兩個(gè)詞在nuance上略有不同.
Sympathy表示一種很"平等"的同情,同情者對被同情者沒有一種居高臨下的感覺,而pity有一種憐憫的暗示,compassion比pity的語氣更重一點(diǎn).所以表示同情的時(shí)候也要倍加注意,最好不要讓人誤會你在憐憫s/he,而是對其遭遇一種sharing,感同身受的安慰.Namely:
Help them not out of pity but out of sympathy for their plight.
另外,Sympathy 有同感,共鳴的意思,比如:
My are/lie with the students on this matter(means I agree with the students on...),
Compassion沒有此意.
