I think both of them are equally important. First of all, English is the language that most of the countries in the world understand or uses. If you know how to speak english, you can definately travel around the world and make many friends.
For Chinese, it is also useful since China has the largest population in the world, and that means Chinese is the language that many people speak and use. These two languages are different, based on pronounces, writings, spellings etc. Chinese character is also interesting and has its own wisdom and beauty. English is also an interesting language which is made up from only 26 letters total.
