An excellent university should not only provide high quality education, but also humane care such as welfare assistances. The various welfare assistances, if provided by the university, can offer students safer and happier on-campus life, and are also competitive advantages for the university. Although the university has already provided some welfare services, there some more essential ones which I believe the university should add to enhance its reputation and to stress its competitive advantages.
Therefore I have come up with some ideas about the improvement on the welfare assistance. The major problem for most of students is lack of income, which leads to severe headache when they facing medical bill, and hosing and tuition fees. If these problems are solved, I believe the university’s reputation would improve with leaps and bounds. To deal with these problems, the school first can provide the medical insurance. The coverage of medical insurance does not need to be as sophisticated as the regular medical insurance; rather it would only cover some basic health problems which would be enough for most students. The university can implement it by cooperating with an insurance company, so there will be no need to hire a professional team while gain goodwill from students and even the society. In addition, the university could provide housing and tuition subsidies to help the students who cannot afford the living expenses. The subsidies can be offered in various forms such as scholarship, salaries of working for the school, or merely the deduction of housing and tuition fees as encouragement and support from the university. In return, the university can get higher reputation and attract more prospective students.
Reality outside the university is hard enough for a student, and thus the university should act more kindly. I think the idea I provided above could be an efficient, effective, and economical way for students to overcome some financial problems.
