Jackie Chan is famous,both in the West and in Asia.He has been working as an actor for many years.In 2001 he was asked to act a role in a film called Nosebleed.The film was about a window washer at the New York World Trade Center."The studio didn't really like the script of Nosebleed because it was not perfect yet,"he remembers."So my manager said,Don'tworry.If you do not like this film,we can do The Tuxedo (《燕偉服》）.You will meet with Spielberg to see if you like it or not.'Then Imet wilth Spielberg, and I said I would do Twxedo,because I trust Spielberg.
Before coming to America,Chan made his career in Hong Kong.Chan still prefers his Hong Kong films such as The Young Master（《師弟出馬》）（1980）and Armour of God （《龍兄虎弟》）（1986）,which he also directed.He can be very clear about the reasons why."They were made withouttricks.That's classic.But MTV,anyone can do that.Cut.Cut.Cut.But not everybody can do a Jackie Chan film."
His three American films, Shanghai Dawn,Rush Hour Ⅰand Ⅱ,made Chan a Hollywood star."Even now I am not sure they're good,"he says,"because I still think in the Asian way.I make American films in the American way,and yes,they are successful in America.But in Asia,nobody goes to see them.They don't understand the jokes and the action is terrible.My Asian films are successful in Asia,but they can't be shown in America."
Will he one day be able to make a film that combines his Hong Kong ideas with his dream to make a blockbuster that Asian and American audiences can both enjoy?"I am looking for that script that everybody likes.Actually,I am writing such a script.I hope one day I can make a film like ET."
