Tan Dun
Born in Hunan,China,in 1957.
Worked as a rice planter and then a performer of Beijing Opera.
Latter,studied music at the Central Conservatory of Music and heard Western classical music for the first time.
Became one of the best-known composers in 1986.
In 1986 won a scholarship to Columbia University and moved to New York.Finished his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 1993.
His music is played all over the world by famous orchestras in opera houses,at international festivals and on radio and television.
Has received famous awards for his music:
an Oscar for music to the film Crouching Tiger,Hidden Dragon;
a Grammy Award;
Musical America's Composer of the year Award.
