This paper seeks to address these questions.The point of departure is a recent and growing body of studies on the driving forces of privatization in China.The common focus of these studies is the changing institutional environment of economic activities.They show that market liberalization and development,banking reforms
are important factors for understanding why large numbers of public enterprises have been converted into private entities since the mid-1990s.
