Strawberry Generation
As we all know, strawberries are delicious, but fragile. The skin of strawberry can bruise easily. So, there comes a Chinese language neologism--strawberry generation, referring to people who share the same quality with strawberries.
Strawberry generation was firstly created by a Taiwan writer in one of his books about office rules. It used to refer to the post-60s generation of office workers who lived in a protected and comfortable environment, and got dented easily.
Gradually, the term is widely accepted by all the people in mainland China. Although, it is initially used for Taiwanese people, nowadays, it has also been widely used to refer to people who are generally well educated but are self-centered and give too much importance to appearance and material comforts, especially those who are so-called post-80s and post-90s generation in mainland China.
For example, as a member of post 90s, I also have the same characteristics as what has been mentioned above. I always complain too much about the difficulties in life, and my future career as well. In life, I can get hurt easily. Sometimes, I feel that my close friends are not so intimate with me, because I always think that she doesn't tell me anything which I think she should tell me. Without friends I feel lonely, and my life becomes gloomy as if I couldn't live with no friends. I can be easily defeated by problems like these. As a well-educated college student, I am always very confident that I can find the job that I want very easily. But through searching for the part-time jobs, I find that the society is full of competition which gives me a lot of pressure. Why my life is filled with so many difficulties? I can hardly bear such harsh pressure in life. Maybe, almost everybody has a hard time dealing with problems in life like me. We are so-called strawberry generation.
There is a fierce complain in the society that the strawberry generation is so weak that people all doubt their abilities to adapt to the current society. This is really big trouble that need us all to solve. Not only strawberry generation themselves, but also all the institutions and departments in the society should undertake the responsibility to cope with the big problem existing in the society.
