stop普通用詞,其使用范圍廣泛,可指停止任何行動(dòng)、活動(dòng)或狀態(tài).但需注意 stop
todo sth. 和 stop doing sth. 的區(qū)別.stop to do sth. 指停下來(lái)（為了）去做另
一件事,而stop doing sth. 指停止手中正在做的事.

1）He came to the new building and stoppedsuddenly.
他來(lái)到新大樓前突然停了下來(lái).
2）A police car drew abreast of us and signalled us to stop.
一輛警車(chē)開(kāi)過(guò)來(lái)與我們并排,示意我們停下來(lái).

cease正式用詞,指停止某行動(dòng)或活動(dòng),往往含某事不再存在或完全停止或終止.表示不再做
某事或停止某種狀態(tài),常用 cease to do sth.表示停止正在做的事,也可說(shuō) cease doing
sth. .

quit 可表示停止某事,相當(dāng)于stop, cease 或 discontinue 的意思；也可表示“放
棄”、“離開(kāi)”或“退出”的意思.

別裝得像你不知道似的.

suspend=“中”斷,“中”止,有點(diǎn)推遲的味道,之后還可以繼續(xù).譬如你有張健身卡,會(huì)員期為一年,你中間有事不能去,你可以去和gym的人說(shuō)你要從6月份開(kāi)始suspend你的會(huì)員期直到8月,8月回去之后還可以繼續(xù)
halt=很突然地停止,是“終”止,譬如說(shuō)急剎車(chē)
cease=慢慢停止（永久性停止）,譬如說(shuō)cease out,滅絕,絕跡
cease :v.終止,停止,主要指停止已存在的一種狀態(tài)或行為,多用于書(shū)面語(yǔ).如：
The animal has ceased to exist. 這種動(dòng)物已經(jīng)不復(fù)存在了.
halt :v.使終止,停止.如：
The soldiers halted for a short rest. 士兵停下休息一會(huì)兒.
stop: v阻止,使中斷,主要用來(lái)指停止正在進(jìn)行的動(dòng)作或行為,要注意后跟不定式及動(dòng)名詞的不同[不定式表示還未做的事；動(dòng)名詞表示已經(jīng)做的事].如：
He stopped to talk with me .他停下來(lái)跟我說(shuō)話(huà).
