be + of + 名詞 相當于 be + 這個名詞對應(yīng)的形容詞
比如
to be of use = to be useful
to be of help = to be helpful
to be of importance = to be important
to be of interest = to be interesting
to be of assistance = to be helpful (沒有"assistanceful")
to be of worth = to be valuable (沒有 "worthful")
to be of good quality = to be good with respect to quality (沒有"good-quality-ful") 等等等等
你可以發(fā)現(xiàn)很多時候我們需要用名詞來修飾限定,它卻沒有相應(yīng)的形容詞.漢語里你可以直接加一個“的”.比如這里“中等身材”,中文直接變成“中等身材的”.英語構(gòu)詞沒這么方便,那么用of + 名詞 可以達到相應(yīng)的效果.
不僅如此,用了 of + 名詞 的形式后,你還可以用更多的形容詞來修飾這個名詞,來達到更好的說明效果.比如 of great help.避免了greatly helpful.尤其口語中,短而有力的詞效果更好.
至于跟she is a girl完全不一樣.be of +名詞 等同于用對應(yīng)的形容詞作表語,而不是那個名詞.
