As an example of such systems,consideration was
given to power recovery from the exhaust of a 10MW
solar gas turbine.This has a rated output of 10MWwith
a cycle efficiency of 32 per cent when the exhaust gases
leave the machine at 482 ◦C.A detailed study of this
showed that by use of a wet steam system,condensing
at 100 ◦C,using an air-cooled condenser,the net power
output can be increased by a further 2.4MW.In regions
where cooling water is freely available,an additional
1.2MW can be obtained by combining the wet steam
system with an ORC bottoming cycle.By this means,
the overall plant thermal efficiency can be increased
to approximately 40 per cent with a wet steam system
alone and 44 per cent with the combined cycle.
