In recent years,more and more western holidays are universally known in China like Christmas,Valentine,Easter etc.And more people join in the celebration of such days.As for these exotic festivals,people hold two different attitudes and oppinions.
One among them is that these celebrations is helpful for culture exchange since these holidays come up with opportunities,on one hand,for Chinese to learn about western culture,history and customs and for foreigners to find out how Chinese look on western culture on the other hand.The other oppinion says it will have a influence for Chinese tradition and eventually our tradition will lose for being overcoming by western holiday as people enjoy western holidays and neglect traditional holidays.
Just as every coin has two sides,I believe it does cause loss of tradition to an extent and overally it makes greater sense in cutural exchange.Judging whether it is good or not,the standard we depend on is never what we lose but what attitude the mass hold.Holidays are formed for celebrating our customs,which reflect historical habits and customs peple have.If peole still persist on these customs,they will keep their tradition by doing something such as celebration activities.In other words,celebration activities for holidays are reflection of customs.People turn to new holidays,which does not mean we are losing our tradition but maybe out of entertainment or curiosity because we still live under our customs.Moreover,it plays a positive role in culture exchange.As we show hospitality for these holidays,weterners pay attention to Chinese traditional culture and customs as well.They also show enthusiasm for Spring Festival,Chung Yeung etc.
Therefore it is concluded that celebration for western holidays may not cause tration loss and it stenghthens mutual exchange and cultural communication.
