More than 20% of primary school students and 35% of high school students said they had much pressure from their parents,according to a nationwide survey
"A lot of homework and heavy school bags,along with parents'great expectations,are driving more young children away from a happy childhood and making more of them feel pressured," Sun Yunxiao,a researcher,said.
Children now send more time doing homework than playing,and they're not getting nearly enough sleep,the survey showed.91.7%of the parents said they hoped their children would get a university degree,while 54.9% said they wanted their children to get a PhD.
Students try very hard to enter China's top schools.Of the students surveyed,13.7% in primary school and 40.8% in senior middle school said they thought their parents were unhappy with their marks.
"Don't let your child be left behind at the starting point"is a well-known sentence among parents."Parents believe that being successful in school can make sure that their children have a good future."Sun said.
Sun believes that it is very important ofr parents to better understand their children at an early age as the pressure on students is becoming more and more."Kids need playtime.Parents should give their kids some time to play.Too much work and pressure are not good for kids."Sun said
