Digital images,particularly those from remote sensing technology,have become an important source of spatial information.In modern Geographical Information Systems,digital remotely sensed images are widely recognized as one most practical means for spatial information updating,especially in real-time applications.However,in most today's applications,the remotely sensed data may only be used with their greatest potentials if they can be correctly interpreted,classified and presented in the same way as other terrestrial spatial information,such as thematic maps.
