It has been an interesting issue that whether the students should learn by themselves or study in a group.Some people believe that a student needs to study alone because he could easily pay attention to learning a lot of knowledge by himself.However,as far as I am concerned,the students should study in the form of groups which is more effective than learning alone.
The first reason I want to put forward is that studying in groups is indeed a good way for the students,which could improve the efficiency of studying new knowledge or complete a task.At most time,the students within one group are able to build up a working team and they will benefit from learning from each other.For instance,suppose that the teacher has assigned a task of designing a website.One of the students is good at arts while another student is good writing articles.Within one group,they are respectively responsible for different parts of the whole task that they are good at.By this way,an excellent work will be done because everyone has play his proper role.With the cooperation among different students,they are able to learn the website design skills as quickly as possible.
If we take a close examination on the issue,it is obvious that a student could improve his abilities much faster than studying by himself.Thanks to the cooperation and communication with other ones,one individual student will not only learn the new knowledge but also foster his social skills,which is crucial for his future career life.In a learning group,like seminars or discussion groups,a young student might be asked to express his personal opinions in ten minutes which could give him a great pressure.This kind of practice is helpful to make the young people to become competitive to meet with the fierce challenges in society.Moreover,he could also learn the team work skills by talking with others and dealing with relationship with teammates.
No one can deny that studying in a group has many advantages comparing with learning alone for a young man.But,there is still a concern that it is indeed a little difficult to evaluate the contribution of every student if they study together.Although the teacher can rank the students via a final test,it might be too late to know their real levels of understanding the courses.
However,overall,I think that as the development of modern society,in order to foster students' social skills,teachers should encourage students to learn more in the form of groups.And surely,there must be some new effective ways to evaluate students' learning results.
