English composition always occupies an important position in teaching and learning English because the level of writing reflects students’ capacity for linguistic performance synthetically, and the improvement of students’ ability in English writing also can make a positive impact on the other part of English, such as English grammar, reading and even listening, because listening, speaking, reading are the foundations of writing, and writing is the higher level of exchange of communication. Besides, English writing, the most comprehensive and difficult manifestation in English, acts as a very significant role in examination and communication of daily lives.
However, writing is very difficult to the great majority of middle school students, they have no very good environment for learning English. The author realized in the course of internship that both English teachers and students paid much more attention to improve English reading and listening ability instead of writing, but the things they learned only limited in the textbook and the teaching methods of the rural English teachers were quite not scientific.
The middle school which the author practiced is a typical rural school, after a period of teaching research in the four classes of Grade two, the author has found that many students were all faced with writer’s block and even could not write a complete sentence. The author just below according to the experience of teaching practice, analyze the reasons making the English writing in rural middle school lags behind, and some research of methods on making the situation better.
Just in the four classes of Grade two, there are less than 25% of students can express their thoughts and feelings by using English sentences, and less than 3% of students can finish the entire composition and achieve the requirement of number of words.
III.Data survey and analysis
The author let 216 students write a composition about travel in Beijing by using the form of letter: If you travelled in Beijing in this summer holiday, please share your experience with your friends.
After collecting the composition, the datas have been booked, classified and the statistical analysis of compositions in four classes has been made.
