Moderate competition can bring our society great benefits, but when competition is over-emphasized it may elicit many problems to our society. Generally speaking, competition will make our society to progress more rapidly and usually it do more good than harm to our society.
Competition is persuasive in each corner of the society and it is competition which makes our society to progress. Even though some kind of competition is detrimental to the growing and development of an individual being or an organization, as far as I am concerned competition do more good than harm to our society.
Firstly and basically, competition can make an individual or an organization to do its utmost to become the best. When I was a just a teenager in a primary school, I was told to be the best in a sporting game. In order to get a satisfactory score, I got up every morning at almost 5 o’clock to exercise. Eventually, in a 100-meter running match, in which there were all together 10 students, I won the contest in the first position. Additional, not only in a sporting match but also in other social activity I learn to do my best to try anything and usually I can make it through my arduous efforts. And this competition comes to an organization the effect is the same. A company which wants to be the leading company in its industry, all the staff in that company must do their best to finish their task that the manager allocated. The manager must build up an atmosphere of competition in the company to render each employee to exert his or her potential. So whether it is an individual or an organization competition often bring success to that unit.
Secondly, competition can promote the renewing of a technique. In computer industries, there are so many substitutes for the users to select, and the software companies have to upgrade their software quickly. Or the substitute products may supplant the former software in some day. For this reason, many famous companies invest a large amount of money in their research and development department which aims to renovate the developing technique. In order to gain as much as customers the Microsoft Company has to compete with the company which produce Unix Operating System. Companied with this competition, the Window Operating System has several different versions in few years. This version upgrading benefit greatly from the competition between the two companies which both produce a similar function products. The competition between the Netscape Explorer and Internet Explorer is another example which makes a rapid progress through the competition.
Thirdly, competition can render the proper person to be the proper position. Through the president competing election, the best one who is fairly preeminent and represents the ideas of the populace will become the president. Through competition the excellent person of a company will be elected to be the manager and then bring success to that company.
Admittedly, over excessive competition can elicit many problems to our society. One who takes any action to obtain success during his success will do much harm to others or our society. In the sporting games some athletes take stimulant during the match which obviously violent the sporting spirit.
