倉鼠是倉鼠亞科動物的總稱.共七屬十八種,主要分布于亞洲,少數(shù)分布于歐洲,其中中國有三屬八種.除分布在中亞的小倉鼠外,其他種類的倉鼠兩頰皆有頰囊,從臼齒側(cè)延伸到肩部.可以用來臨時儲存或搬運(yùn)食物回洞儲藏,故名倉鼠,又稱腮鼠、搬倉鼠.
倉鼠部分品種因為和人親近,已成為近年流行的寵物,如黃金倉鼠、加卡利亞倉鼠、坎貝爾倉鼠、羅伯羅夫倉鼠等.
