prefer最常見的意思是"寧可"、"寧愿(選擇)"、"比較喜歡"、"更喜歡"等, 可以構(gòu)成以下結(jié)構(gòu).
一. prefer sth.
"Do you like French?""Yes, but I prefer English.""你喜歡法語嗎?""喜歡,但是我更喜歡英語."
注:prefer是"比較喜歡,更喜歡"的意思,即like better,因此就不能再與better, more等比較級詞語連用.
二.prefer over sth.
I prefer over this newly-built lab, and you? 我比較喜歡這個新建的實(shí)驗(yàn)室,你呢?
They prefer over new works that sing of their life today. 他們更喜歡歌頌他們今天生活的新作品.
三. prefer sth. above all others

八. prefer to do sth. rather than do sth.
These workers prefered to work extra hours at night rather than leave the work until the next week. 這些工人寧愿加班干,也不愿把工作留到下一個星期.
注:這種結(jié)構(gòu)中的rather than可以置于句首.例如:
Rather than go on holiday to the seaside I prefer to work days and go to school nights. 我寧愿白天工作,晚上上學(xué),而不愿到海邊度假.
注:有時rather可以移至第一個不定式之前,而讓than留在第二個不定式之前,即為prefer rather...than結(jié)構(gòu).這種用法多見于書面語言,在口語中很少用.
九. prefer to do sth. rather than doing sth.
They prefer to join in the celebrations rather than going on a visit to the Palace Museum. 他們寧愿參加慶?；顒佣辉竻⒂^故宮.
注:有時名詞也可用于rather than之后,這種用法多用以表示在某種具體場合的選擇.
十. prefer sb. to do sth.
I prefer you to spare some time to come to our art exhibition next week. 我寧愿你們下星期抽出點(diǎn)時間來看看我們的美展.
十一. prefer+that-clause.在that賓語從句中,我們應(yīng)當(dāng)用虛擬語氣"should+動詞原形",其中的should可以省略.

1、后接不定式時與rather than 或instead of連用,如：He prefered to die rather than (to) steal. / He perfered to die instead of stealing. 他寧死也不去偷竊.
2、注意介詞搭配,如： I prefer swimming to skating. (I like swimming better than skating.)我喜歡游泳勝過滑冰.prefer 因其本身含有比較之意,而不可再與more 或most連用.
