No 是個形容詞,等于not a或 not any.eg:There are no students in the classroom.=There are not any students.
而not是個副詞,eg:I am not happy today. No I am not.

這兩個詞在詞義和使用場合上都有所不同.
No可以作副詞,也可以作名詞和形容詞；not只能用作副詞
Not可用于
（一）修飾動詞：
I do not know any of them．
這些人我一個都不認(rèn)識.
（二）修飾形容詞：
It's not cold today．
今天天氣不冷.
（三）修飾不定冠詞：
Three decades ago not a year passed without a number of people falling victims to hunger here．
三十年前,這里每年都有不少人死于饑荒.
（四）修飾副詞：
Not seldom did I go to Victoria Park while I stayed in Causeway Bay．
我住在銅鑼灣期間常到維多利亞公園去.
