but,however,still,nevertheless,yet這幾個(gè)詞的詞義接近,都表示轉(zhuǎn)折和讓步.
（1）but用來(lái)引出微弱的相反的意見(jiàn),是口語(yǔ)常用語(yǔ),如：sally was amused,but i was very embarrassed.薩莉很開(kāi)心,但我卻很尷尬.
（2）however比but的詞義還要弱些,并不直接引出相反的意見(jiàn),因此常用作插入語(yǔ),如：the most surprising thing about it,however,is that it can land anywhere.不過(guò),答案〖but〗解析：關(guān)于這架飛機(jī)最使人吃驚的事情是,它可以在任何地方著陸.
（3）still還,還是,如：it is true that winter is over；still,it is almost as cold.冬天已經(jīng)過(guò)去了,這是事實(shí),但天氣還是那么冷.
（4）nevertheless的含義為即使做出完全的讓步,也沒(méi)有任何影響,或者說(shuō)也不是決定因素,如：there was no news；nevertheless,she went on hoping.一點(diǎn)消息也沒(méi)有,但她仍抱著希望.
（5）yet的含義為即使做出極端的讓步,也不會(huì)發(fā)生期待的結(jié)果,如：he worked hard,yet,he failed.他干得很賣(mài)力,然而卻失敗了.
a man who fears suffering is already suffering from what he fears.
害怕痛苦的人其實(shí)已經(jīng)在承受他所害怕的痛苦了.
