For many years automated manufacturing systems were synonymous with MRP (Material Requirements Planning).Today computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing are also important components of most manufacturing systems.Product designers and engineers working on computer=aided design (CAD) systems use a powerful computer graphics workstation outfitted with programs that allow them to draw design specifications on the display screen.Manipulating a light pen,scanner,or mouse,they can specify the product’s dimensions and show its lines,indentations,and other features with precision.Each element of the design appears on the screen as it is specified.Changes can be made quickly by adding,removing,or altering details on the drawing.
