The grey sea and the long black land;\x0b
And the yellow half-moon large and low;\x0b
And the startled little waves that leap\x0bIn fiery ringlets from their sleep,\x0b
As I gain the cove with pushing prow,\x0b
And quench its speed i' the slushy sand.\x0b
Then a mile of warm sea-scented beach;\x0b
Three fields to cross till a farm appears;\x0b
A tap at the pane,the quick sharp scratch\x0bAnd blue spurt of a lighted match,\x0b
And a voice less loud,
through its joys and fears,
\x0bThan the two hearts beating each to each!
