I am a senior high student of grade 3. Recently, we had a debate about the use of web slang in textbooks when attending a programme organized by the 21st century English Newspaper. About seventy percent of us feel that web slangs should be introduced into textbooks. Their justification is that our textbooks should reflect the changes in the society by absorbing new vocabularies that are the product of the cultural change. Web slangs reflect the mentalities and attitudes of the youth and the teaching of web slangs will help them keep up with their peers. However, 30 percent of us disagree. They feel that the use of web slangs in textbooks confuse students about the standard Chinese usage. Moreover, the prevalence of web slangs will widen the generation gap between the internet-savvy youth and the older generation. 怎么樣?
