一般說來,in spite of的語氣較強,使用范圍也較廣； despite的語氣較弱,多用于詩歌或正式的文體中.despite可以寫作despite of,也可以寫作 in despite of；in spite of則可以寫作 spite of,但這些寫法已少用了.例：
