Time: Just before the class
(The bell is ringing and a student is rushing to his classroom.)
A student: Ah, I am late.I must hurry.
(While running, he throws his drinking bottle towards the dustbin but fails. He doesn’t stop and keeps running. Andy comes up with a stack of books in his arms. He doesn’t notice the bottle and steps on it…)
A: Ow! What is it! (He collects the books ,puts the bottle
into the dustbin and leaves)
Scene2 (In the classroom)
C: What's the matter with you?
A：This morning I stepped on a drinking bottle and fell down!
J/C/S：Haha...
S: You are “l(fā)ucky”.
A：I don’t think it’s funny.
C: Don’t be angry. I will help you to find out the guy who
threw the bottle and …
A: Well~ I don’t want to find out the person. What I want to say is that the 2010 EXPO is coming. These days we are busy making our city beautiful and our school environmentally friendly, but we are still making unconscious errors. To be good hosts, we should do more, and we should change.
J：Yes, you are quite right. I don’t want to be considered uncivilized. We’d better find some remedial measures to improve our campus environment. After all, school is our second home.
C: We can help to collect the rubbish around the campus. (to A) And, you won’t be tripped again.
A：It’s a good way. But I don’t think collecting rubbish is the only way to make our school environmentally friendly. I believe we can do more and it’s a long way to go.
J：Yeah. I got an idea. We can set up a recycling center beside the back door of each classroom. Then the students can put all the waste paper and bottles in it. I believe it will be very useful.
A: Besides, we can reuse paper, text books, the batteries and
even school uniforms.
J/S/C: Textbooks and uniforms!? How can that be?
A: Of course. If we protect the textbooks carefully while using them, we can pass them to the juniors. If all the students do so, I think much fewer trees will be cut down every year.
J：Oh, it’s really a good idea. And we can reduce the disposable things, such as one-off chopsticks, plastic cups, plastic bags, and things like that. It will also help to protect the environment.
A: Furthermore, I know that some of our classmates are studying solar power. So maybe, we can ask them to make some solar powered lamps. These lamps can shine for the boarding students at night and then we can save energy and improve our campus environment.

Scene3
One month later, it so happens that our foreign friends, Mr.
White and Ms. Black come to visit our school.
C: Do you know two foreign teachers from our sister school in
London will come to visit us.
J: Really?
C: Yes, and I believe we will show them an environmentally
friendly shcool.
(on the school main road)
C: Welcome to our school, Mr. white and Ms. Black. Now
let’s show you around the school.
W: Thank you very much. Oh, you have a very beautiful
school. It’s very large and clean.
B：Is it very hard to keep the school so clean and tidy?
C：No, every week, the students from one class will be responsible for cleaning the campus. But what is more important is that we students are aware of the importance of protecting the environment and not throwing litter about .
W: You are very right. Consciousness of responsibility is the
most important.
PART I
A：Mr. White and Ms. Black, as you have seen the lamp, do you think it is special?
B: En… I think it's a common lamp.
J：In fact it's a solar powered lamp. They receive sun light in the day and produce energy instead of electricity.
W: That’s very fresh and original. It can save lots of energy. We all know that solar energy is the best source and it also reduce the pollution greatly.
B: I think it’s very good to use solar powered lamps in the school. (turns to Mr. White) Do you think it’s possible for our students to make solar powered lamps in our school?
W: Yes, of course. It’s a good idea. The students from both schools can share their technology.
PART II
J: We have done many activities of environment protection.
Some students made some dresses with waste materials.
A: Also I made some pictures.They are famous Chinese flowers. Mr. White and Ms. Black, can you find out what they are made of?
B: (looking closely) Oh, my dear. They're made of Coke bottles.
A: Yes, they are made of Coke bottles that are recycled by our students.
B: En, very good, full of imagination.
C: Thank you. I think the enthusiasm of students’ protecting environment has improved a lot.
W: We are glad to see that your school has done so well on improving the environment of the school.
A/J/C/S: Thank you very much.
A: In fact we didn’t do so well in the past, but we are changing. As you know, Shanghai will hold the 2010 EXPO. We hope that we can be qualified hosts.
W: I believe you will.
A: And I want to give you these two pictures as presents.

PARTIII
A: Mr. White, this is our school canteen. It offers lunch to all the students. Boarding students also have breakfast and supper here.
W: It’s very large and clean. I know there are more than 1000 students in your school, and it’s a great job to feed so many boys and girls.
B: Do you use still throw-away tableware?
A: No, to help protect the environment, we don’t use disposable lunch boxes or chopsticks any more. Look, we use this kind of stainless trays. Chinese are changing, and we students also know that we should try not to use disposable things and reduce the white pollution.
W: It sounds great. I find that there are much fewer plastic bags on the ground than than before in China and Shanghai has become cleaner and more beautiful.
A: Yes, it has. I wish you will enjoy your stay in Shanghai.
W/B: Yes, we will.

W: Time passes so quickly and it’s time for us to leave now. We have a very good time today. We are deeply impressed by what you have done. J: Yeah, we should always learn from each other. Environment protection is an important issue in every country. We should share different ways of protecting the environment. We are very glad that you enjoy your visit to our school. We are already looking forward to your next visit.
