這個(gè)except 相當(dāng)于but,這是少數(shù)的可以跟不定式的詞.但是因?yàn)榍懊嬗袑?shí)意動(dòng)詞did/do/to do 介詞后面的不定式符號(hào)to 省略.如He did nothing but sleep./He had nothing to do but wait./ He had no choice but to sleep.那什么時(shí)候區(qū)分EXCEPT是介詞什么時(shí)候是相當(dāng)于BUT大部分情況下except 和but 可以替換，如all the class went there except/but Tom.there was nothing in the room except /but a chair.但是except 后面可以跟that 從句，but 不可以，如I know nothing about him except that he is from America.
