『最早』的時候,meanwhile的詞性只是adv（副詞）,而meantime則只是名詞； meanwhile表示一個時間段,『側(cè)重』的是單純的時間間隔,因此meanwile也可表示同一時刻（at the same time,一個點(diǎn)）；而meantime也表時間段,但這個時間段的感念包含以某個事件開始~結(jié)束（后某階段）的時間段,而且meantime不能用來表示某個時間“點(diǎn)”.
舉例：
Today is Monday,I am going to Shanghai for a meeting this Friday,meanwhile I will continue working here in Guangzhong.--- 以純時間為事件衡量的時間段.
I am working on my project,meanwhile staffs in Shanghai are getting the test preparation done.- 表同時.
而in the meantime = meanwhile.
Your car won't be ready until Thursday.In the meantime,you can use mine.
【但】語言的變化導(dǎo)致詞性的變化,現(xiàn)代英語里meanwhile也可作名詞,== meantime （meantime的另一個說法）；而meantime也演化成可以做adv（副詞）,== meanwhile （meanwhile的另一個說法).【但】meanwile = at the same time這個時間點(diǎn)的意思,沒有傳遞給meantime；而且作同樣詞性比較的時候,meantime還是以事件為時間分割段；而meanwhile還是以事件的時間為分割基礎(chǔ).
in the meanwhile,是meanwhile名詞化了,= in the meantime（名詞）= meanwhile.一般還是應(yīng)該要么meanwhile,要么in time meantime.
