Should children be required to help with household tasks as soon as they
are able to do so?
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?Children should be required to help with
household tasks as soon as they are able to do so.Use specific reasons and examples to support your
answer.
It has been discussing about a controversial issue that whether parents should let their children do household tasks when they are old enough.As far as I know,most parents in China require their children to do housework when they are in proper age like 15 years old or so.And I do agree with them.It is very important for children to do some sorts of housework as they are able to do it.
Admittedly,there are some bad consequences if parents ask their children to do chores early.As we all know that playing is the major nature of children.They spend much time playing games such as sports,computer games and hobbies.They would probably not be willing to do chores which would definitely take their lots of time that spend on interesting and attractive games.Even worse,if parents demand them to do that seriously,they will be angry and even hate their parents.That is obviously not what parents expected.On the other hand,nowadays there is more and more homework putting into children.They have to do their homework overnight especially for Chinese students.Therefore they are certainly busy with their homework,and do not have additional time to do chores which will surely takes more than 30 minutes.In generally,however,children will get more advantages by doing chores.
The most essential advantage is that they can be more independent through doing chores.For example,when they clean up their rooms,they will learn how to sweep the floor without using a lot of water; how to put their books in order according to classification; how to put their chairs correctly in order to avoid scratching the floor.After that,they will be proud of themselves ,and believe they can do something without parents.They will also understand how hard their parents are to look after them when they were little.In addition,doing household early can make them adapt to their alone living in the future better.
When I was a teenager,I was very tired of doing chores.Every time when my parents ask me to do some cleaning,I always lost my temper with them,and thought they enslaved me.But at last,I still had to do that.As I grew up,and came into a college.I surprisedly found that I did do better in personal living aspect than my other roommates.I really appreciate my parents asked me to do chores early otherwise I won’t be so smooth to handle such things.
In conclusion,it is very important for children to do household tasks when they are able to do them.It is parents’ responsibility that they require their children to do chores in order to avoid having troubles in their personal alone living in the future.
